Dedicated to bringing the joy and pride
of ownership of historic sports and
racing cars to fellow enthusiasts
around the world
Founded in 1985 by Jim Marland, Proteus has been a leader for over 22 years in the field of replica sportscars. Perhaps most famous for the re-creation of the Jaguar C-Type but also notably the Jaguar XK120 Lightweight, Jaguar D-Type, Jaguar XKSS, Jaguar XJ13 and Mercedes 300 SLR.
Around 260 have been built in total with the Company having passed through three significant changes in its history. From 1985 until 1999 Proteus was developed by Jim Marland from humble beginnings in Lancashire to become a thriving outfit with its products well respected and sold throughout the world. Founded on engineering excellence and superb traditional craftsmanship the "Marland era" cars are still today some of the most valuable re-creations of these iconic sportcars.
In 1999 Jim sold the Company to John Gregson, another man of vast experience in the replica sports and racing car world. Over the following 7 years, John and his son Robert continued production and achieved significant success on the UK racing circuit. Due to ill health John was forced to slowly retire from running the business and in 2006 the assets of Company were acquired on trust by Enduro Ltd. John passed away in November 2008.
During the "Enduro" period the Company was not able to move forward successfully and finally in 2008 it was acquired by the current owners. This team is totally dedicated to continuing to develop Proteus and have made major investments into tooling and manufacturing facilties which will strongly underpin the business for the future. The resurgence of interest in historic sports car racing has led Proteus now to offer a "Racing Specification" to its product range thus supporting the growing band of club racers around the world.
