The original C-Type design was based on the hugely successful Jaguar XK120-C, the fastest production car of its time. The C-Type featured an all-new tubular chassis, clothed in the iconic and curvaceous lightweight aluminum body created by renowned aircraft and car designer Malcolm Sayer. One of the first engineers to apply principles of aircraft design to cars, he used pioneering wind-tunnel testing to shape the elegant and streamlined body. C-Type has been lauded for its beauty and is still considered one of the world's most desirable car models.
A lifetime of racing experience and over 1,000 man hours are invested in building each Proteus C-Type from scratch in our Coventry and Henley workshops. As with the original 1950s production models, every car is hand-built to the customer’s precise personal specifications. Colour, leather, trim, sports performance upgrades - everything is made just the way the customer likes it. No detail is overlooked, with each car being painstakingly hand-finished with our precision coach-working. Every part of this detailed construction is planned to perfection with the body alone requiring 600 hours before being sent for final assembly.
The beating heart of every Proteus C-Type is a completely re-mastered original Jaguar XK 4.2 litre engine. First introduced in 1949 and manufactured up to 1992, this classic engine is renowned for producing high levels of torque thanks to its advanced valve and cylinder head configuration. We select the latest model engine we can find, then piece-by-loving-piece re-build it to the most exacting modern standards using the latest precision technology, parts and motor racing expertise. The result is an authentic, growling and rasping Jaguar XK4.2 engine, running smoothly, reliably and powerfully under that iconic bonnet.
